Will the next generation of physical therapists be robots?

The short answer is no. The long answer we found in Denmark (Kalunborg), exactly in PhysioCenter, in which, Inrobics has collaborated to demonstrate outside of Spain the ability of robots and virtual avatars to improve patient care by motivating them and, in the long term, supporting the collection of health data, under the supervision of healthcare and social care professionals.

In the words of Maja Helbo Jensen, Physiotherapist, Partner and CEO of MOVE and PhysioCenter Kalundborg, "The ambition of this project is to investigate how new healthcare technologies can motivate and assist with monitoring patients' activity."

A collaboration that crosses borders

The robot «Robic» is currently the only social robot of its kind certified as a medical device in Europe. It is designed to offer personalized rehabilitation programs and ensure physical and mental stimulation for patients during treatment.

Users are looking for the best and most innovative solutions from providers large and small, connected to a person's medical record," says Sarah Lundtang Ritz, head of the program, which currently has more than 35 API partners in KMD Nexus.

Virtual companion

The next stage of this collaboration will focus on the virtual avatars, require less space and can be used by the patient from home.

«We are planning a test phase with Robic "As a virtual avatar, where the same barriers as with a physical robot don't exist. Here, we will investigate whether training improves if patients receive our extensive experience at home through a virtual training partner. At the same time, we hope this will enable systematic data collection that can improve the quality of patient care overall," concludes Maja Helbo Jensen.
